Statement of Faith for Jane Perkins

A Christian Therapist Who Counsels with Her Bible OPEN.

What is a Statement of Faith?

A Statement of Faith is a foundational document that outlines a Christian counselor’s core beliefs. My beliefs about God, the Bible, humanity, and salvation, and how they apply to my counseling practice, are of vital importance. This statement serves as a public declaration of my theological framework within therapy.

As a Professionally Licensed Christian Counselor’s Statement of Faith

This Statement of Faith is Foundational to my treatment philosophy and ministry.

  • The Bible is the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God.
  • There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He has revealed Himself in creation, history, and in Jesus Christ.
  • The person and work of Jesus Christ, including His deity, virgin birth, His sinless life, being true humanity, His miracles, His substitutionary death, the bodily resurrection, His ascension to heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father, and in His coming personal return in power and in glory.
  • The present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian can live a godly life and grow in the knowledge of God and Christian obedience.
  • I believe in God’s creation of the world, humankind, and in humanity’s rebellion and subsequent depravity.
  • Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential for the salvation of the lost, sinful man.
  • Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ as one’s Savior.
  • I believe in the sanctity of life and do not believe in abortion.
  • I believe in the importance of marriage, and although the Bible states that divorce is permissible in two unusual circumstances (adultery as described in Matthew 5:31, and abandonment of a Christian by a non-Christian as described in I Corinthians 7:15), we will do all we can to preserve marriage.

This Statement of Faith ensures that, as your counselor, I will thoroughly evaluate all psychological principles. All counseling theories must align with Scripture’s grid, and Scripture will always hold the final authority.

A Statement of Faith is more than just a formality for a Christian counselor. For Bible-believing Christian clients, I am extending full disclosure of what type of therapy will be provided and its foundation. All concerns will be addressed through the lens of scripture and a faith-based context. This statement of faith outlines my core belief and is provided to clarify where I believe all authority comes from.

The Spiritual Nature of our Battles

God provides all Answers.

While everyone is responsible for their actions, it is vital to understand that we are in a spiritual battle, with invisible forces playing a part in our physical and emotional battles within mental health.

Our struggles extend beyond the physical realm. Paul articulated most clearly that our battles are all spiritual in Ephesians 6:12. We all make poor choices and sometimes act wrongly. Knowing this, we must recognize that we also participate in a larger conflict. We all desire to change ourselves or others, but it’s crucial to understand that these struggles are often deeply rooted in a spiritual dimension, encompassing both good and evil. A significant aspect of the problem is the existence of a spiritual adversary. The physical world we perceive is consistently influenced, if not directly caused or provoked, by events and forces within the spiritual realm. As stated in Daniel 4, divine authority governs the affairs of humanity. Consequently, addressing the underlying spiritual causes of our difficulties is essential for achieving lasting solutions to their physical manifestations.
