It’s a brutal battle…
It’s you against the past and the future… and you’re struggling to win.
You regret decisions, words, actions, or just being present at that particular time and place.
The memories remain vivid, intrusive, and shameful… no matter how hard you try to put them in the past.
It’s like your brain has been hijacked!
Meanwhile, what-ifs are crawling up your back.
What if, while chopping this watermelon, I drop the knife on my dog?
What if that tree branch falls in my driveway while I’m pulling into the garage?
What if I have cancer?
What if I jumped out that window?
It never stops… shut up already!
Lurking in your mind’s eye…
So many thoughts lead you to a dark place. There, you see yourself engaging in nasty, immoral, or sexual deeds you wish you had never seen. Nasty words and accusations that might hold a sliver of truth stun you into fear and guilt.
It happens repeatedly, and you can’t run and hide from your mind. Your imagination is vivid, creative, and out of control!
Where did these thoughts come from? Those images? Who are you: Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde?
It’s just not you… or… certainly not who you want to be.
“A man might as well hope to fight a swarm of flies with a sword as to master his own thoughts when they are set on by the devil.”
–Charles Spurgeon
Scrupulosity, sinful thoughts, and Religious OCD…
You believe in God.
You desire to be a good, God-fearing follower of Christ.
Yet, your mind torments you: denying Christ, cursing God, and rejecting the Spirit of faith.
It can be so bad that you start questioning the assurance of your salvation.
We can make it stop!
Anxiety is a unique enemy because you can’t fight it physically or with positive thinking. You have to fight it with consistency of spirit.
In therapy, you’ll learn how to face these thoughts squarely… just as a soldier faces his enemy on the front lines. Instead of avoiding or arguing with them, you will face them calmly and redirect them away.
Although your thoughts may be blasphemous, heinous, and embarrassing, they must be addressed outside of yourself. They are a part of you, but they don’t own you.
The solution is to face the enemy head-on.
As much as you may curse your large imagination, it will be your ally in this fight – a gift from God that allows you to see your attacker for what it is… and your champion providing you with the means to destroy false, intrusive narratives.
Anxiety can be organic, biological, or a physical reaction meant to protect you from harm.
So, don’t run.
Anxiety can also be intangible, spiritual, or an abstract reaction to an emotional attack – an initiative meant to tear you down from your spiritual roots and on up.
So, stand firm.
Anxiety interrupts your life purpose and your faith; it prevents you from fully understanding who you are or knowing to whom you belong.
So, lean in.

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”
