Anxiety
What is Anxiety?
The Bible describes anxiety, though not always by name. Anxiety is a natural response to uncertainty, fear, or feeling out of control. It often reveals a trust issue regarding God’s care, control, and provision. Anxiety grows when we rely on ourselves instead of seeking God’s kingdom. The Bible says anxiety is a heavy burden, but you can be counseled biblically and find freedom from worry, fear, and panic.

Depression
What is Depression?
The Bible doesn’t use the term “depression,” but it describes similar emotional distress. Biblical figures like David, Job, and Jeremiah felt deep sorrow and hopelessness, sometimes even abandonment by God. These feelings often stemmed from life’s hardships: grief, suffering, fear, guilt, and disappointment. Depression in the Bible also has a spiritual side. It can reflect feeling distant from God, struggling to trust His plan, or the weight of sin. Even faithful people experienced this intense pain. David wept, Elijah despaired, Job cursed his birth, and Jeremiah mourned deeply. Yet, God offers hope in sorrow. Be Counseled Biblically! God hears the afflicted, draws near to the brokenhearted, and brings comfort and healing. The Psalms often move from despair to renewed trust in the Lord, modeling this journey.

Grief and Loss
What is Grief & Loss?
Grief is a deep, personal response to loss—whether from death, broken relationships, declining health, job loss, or unmet hopes. While the Bible may not use the word “grief,” it clearly portrays mourning through weeping, lamenting, and crying out to God. Grief is not a sign of weak faith; it’s part of life in a broken world. Be counseled biblically to understand how Christians grieve over death, sin, suffering, and injustice. Even Jesus, “a man of sorrows,” grieved over human sin and the hardness of hearts.
God doesn’t ignore grief—He draws near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). In Christ, grief has purpose and hope. The gospel promises healing, resurrection, and eternal restoration. For believers, grief expresses love, fosters healing, builds compassion, and deepens trust in God. Though it hurts, grief is sacred, and God walks with us through it.

Compulsive Behaviors
What is a Compulsive Behavior?
The Bible doesn’t define “compulsive behavior” as modern psychology does, but addresses patterns that resemble it. Scripture warns against repetitive, meaningless rituals—especially in religious settings—where actions replace true devotion (Matthew 6:7). It also speaks of bondage to sin, where certain behaviors can dominate a person’s life (Romans 6:16-20). Addiction and idolatry reflect compulsive tendencies when someone seeks satisfaction in something other than God (Colossians 3:5). Anxiety and worry often lie at the root of compulsive behaviors (Matthew 6:25-34), pointing to a lack of trust in God’s care. The Bible promotes self-control through the Holy Spirit as the path to freedom from harmful habits (Galatians 5:22-23).
Be counseled biblically to uncover how compulsive behaviors stem from desires for control, unresolved guilt, or spiritual oppression. While Scripture doesn’t use clinical terms, it offers profound insight into the heart and points to God’s grace for healing.

Spiritual Warfare
Why Spiritual Warfare?
Spiritual warfare is the ongoing battle between God and evil, affecting both the spiritual and physical realms. Satan works to deceive, tempt, and destroy—especially by attacking the mind with lies and fear (Ephesians 6:12; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5). But through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God has already won the ultimate victory (Colossians 2:15).
To be counseled biblically means recognizing spiritual warfare as a factor in emotional and behavioral struggles. Counselors discern spiritual influences while addressing personal sin, encouraging repentance, and guiding clients in God’s truth. Biblical counselors integrate Scripture, prayer, and community support with wise psychological care. They avoid extremes—neither ignoring spiritual realities nor attributing everything to demonic influence. With grace and truth, they help individuals grow in faith, take responsibility, and walk in victory through Christ.
